Why do you only offer editable document downloads and not a generator feature?

A resume is a living document. Be wary of resume template generators that automatically generate a finished pdf that you are unable to edit without re-entering all of your information. These generators typically value aesthetics over functional formatting that will beat ATS. You should have the opportunity to edit and update a resume to reflect your changing experiences on demand, as well as receive constructive criticism from a second and third set (or more!) of human eyes. Our suggestion is to upload your template onto a platform such as Google Docs so that you can easily create copies to tailor for each position you apply to, as well as invite trusted friends or family to collaborate and provide comments on flow, verbiage, grammar and spelling. While they are not flashy, these are the templates that follow the best formatting that we are aware of, and we trust them to make a difference in the careers of our friends, family, and community.

What templates do you offer?

We offer a wide range of templates, ranging from basic resumes and CVs to correspondence templates. Need a thank you or resignation letter? We got you! Need our Fired or Laid Off? Prove it to the Unemployment Office When You Get Ghosted by Your Employer! Template? Yep, we have that too! We are always working on new helpful templates. We hope to launch our Federal resume and Transitioning Veteran templates soon, after we finish our research on best practices. Plus, all templates are accompanied by guides to make sure you get it filled out right the first time, and so you don’t get scammed by unethical employers.

Do I NEED an ATS-optimized resume?

Actually, this is very industry-dependent! Are you in the tech industry? One of our friends just tweets at people he wants to work for, and that works for him. Are you a recent graduate in healthcare? Your school may have programs to set you up with an employer, and you may be submitting your resume directly to a real person in HR who is already expecting your specific application. Some very small businesses or non-profits may also accept applications direct to a real human. It just depends. If you are applying to customer service positions, you may just need to insert your qualifications directly into their proprietary system, bypassing common ATS software that most companies in regular blue- or white-collar industries use. If you’ve sent out more than a dozen applications and not heard back, though, ATS is most likely to blame. We currently offer DIY templates for pretty much every job hunt related task and form we could think of- if you need something we don’t offer, please reach out! Our personalized services include one-on-one tailored resume and cover letter writing done in collaboration with you, in real time if you want! We have a 14-day money back guarantee, and offer a 90-day interview guarantee- if you are not offered an interview in 90 days, we will do a full reevaluation for free and provide as many edits as needed. We are also offering limited slots for career and personal goal coaching, which you can schedule here.

What is your pricing structure?

Our pricing is totally transparent. The prices listed in the shop are what you will pay. DIY templates are the most affordable option, and one-on-one services are based upon the market averages. We try to do sales as often as possible!

Can I see examples of your previous work?

Totally! We have some examples of real resumes and cover letters we did for friends and past clients at our local LGBT+ Community Center, shared with their permission and with their personally identifiable information redacted. The resumes aren’t cute, but they worked and beat the bots!

Do you offer any guarantees or refunds?

We cannot offer a guarantee that you will land a job, but we do offer refunds! If for any reason you are not satisfied, or just change your mind, you have 14 days to get a full refund. Outside of that window, please contact us at support@beatthebotsresume.com and we will do our best to make it right.

Can I customize the templates to fit my personal style and experience?

Yes, you can, HOWEVER! We make our templates in a very, very, very specific way, which is the specific way that is compatible with most ATS. If you do not follow our instructions and decide to make a very cute resume with all the things we told you not to do, we reserve the right to tell you that we told you so. A cute and aesthetic resume will not make it to human eyes, we can tell you that much. Check out Brianna-Lynn’s original adorable resume in our sample section for an idea of what could only land her a job at T*co B*ll. Feel free to print out whatever aesthetic version you want when you land the interview for the interviewer. Please do, however, customize the template to reflect your true experiences.

How long does it take to receive my resume or cover letter after purchasing a service?

DIY templates are available for download immediately, and the download link will be available for 24 hours. If for some reason you cannot access it within that time, please email us at support@beatthebotsresume.com! A one-on-one resume writing service will take up to 5 business days to complete, depending on the length and amount of communication back and forth required to get it done. We pride ourselves in delivering high quality resumes, and a good one might take a total of around 4-8 hours of work to complete. If you need a rush service (24, 48 or 72 hour turnaround) please let us know ASAP and we will let you know if we can accommodate your schedule. Additional charges for rush services may apply.

Are your templates and services compatible with applicant tracking systems (ATS)?

Yes! We are always doing research and will continue to update our products with the most up-to-date formatting to ensure it makes it through most ATS. That’s the bot we are trying to beat, after all!

How much experience do your writers have in the industry I am interested in?

That depends on your industry! Ezra has worked and/or volunteered in federal government contracting, cyber security, data analysis, food services, social media management, public relations, home care and childcare services, personal assistant and administrative work, public speaking, university research, telecommunications, Hazardous Materials, Logistics, DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion) training, events planning, copy editing, woodworking and household handyman stuff. He has hung a lot of curtains and has been a professional person for around 12 years. If he does not feel he is up to the task for your specific need, he will let you know with 100% honesty at no cost to you! He does, however, possess a lot of homosexual audacity, and is pretty capable.

If I pay for resume writing services, who will work with me? Is it outsourced?

An employee of Beat the Bots, either Ezra or Brianna-Lynn, will be writing your resume directly. We promise to never outsource our services to a third party. We take our commitment to providing quality services very seriously. While this means that we can take on fewer individual clients every month than a large company, you can rest assured that you will receive your money’s worth of personalized support.

What is the process for working with a career coach?

We will schedule a free initial consultation at your convenience, and you can expect us to discuss your goals and expectations, as well as a timeline for meetings. You can have as many or as few recurring meetings with us as you want! We will assess your current skills, interests, and make actionable goals to get you to where you want to go. You can expect us to help you develop a personal brand, create a resume and cover letter, polish online profiles such as LinkedIn or other relevant social media, and provide customized resources for networking and job search strategies. Throughout the process, we are here to provide personalized support! If you feel either Ezra or Brianna-Lynn are not good fits culturally, we do know other professionals who we can refer you out to, so just let us know. How do I access my purchased templates or services?

You will receive a digital download file immediately to your email on file. If you don’t see it in your inbox, check your spam folder! If you still have issues finding the document, don’t hesitate to contact us at support@beatthebotsresume.com. Once you receive your digital download, follow the directions. You’ll have immediate access to your templates to edit as you please, as well as how-to guides and a link to a short how-to video by Brianna-Lynn.

Can I request revisions or changes to my resume or cover letter after receiving the initial draft?

Yes, after purchasing a one-on-one resume consultation, we offer a 90-day interview guarantee. If you do not get an interview offered to you within 90 days, we will do a full re-evaluation of your job search and adjust your resume as many times as needed at no extra charge. If you're in a rush to apply, we also offer 24 and 48 hour services, just let us know your timeline!

Are your services and templates confidential and secure?

During one-on-one services, your resume will be hosted on Google Docs for one year, or until you request it is deleted, whichever comes first, after which we will destroy it. Google is known for its formidable security measures, however we cannot make any guarantees to their confidentiality or security on their platform. We will not share or sell any Client personal information, ever.
